Infertility vs weight loss???
Hi ladies! I have read on another forum that a rapid loss of your weight may influence your fertility. The lady says that she is infertile because of that. I don't know, she mentioned that she lost about 15 kg before her wedding. It sounds quite strange to me. I am trying to conceive myself now and I am not very slim. I know that the problem with obesity can really affect your fertility. Also, if you have eating disorders. But seriously, just losing your weight? I think it should include some other difficulties with your health. I dunno, low immunity or smth. Can weight loss influence infertility? Anyone here had this issue? The thing is, I am trying to lose my weight now. And my goal is about 10-15 kg as well. An I under the risk?

Hi girl! If you suddently lose ur weight it can effect your hormons. Any changes can effect it! Even if you travel and the weather conditions are changed. Or when u are being stressed. I think a smart way of losing weight is a gradual one. But tell me anouther thing. Are u trying to conceive now? I think if you are in this state you should check your health. Spend some time and money and make a good examination. The thing is, I've been trying to conceive for three years. Three! I was eatting the vitamins, going yoga, so on... And then I finally I visited the doctor. And only then my infertility was diagnosed. So, girl, don't wait till too long. Also the doctor can suggest you a good proper diet

Hello there! Thanks for your reply! Yes, I am trying to conceive now. So at first doctors told me to lose weight. But now I see that I must be very careful with that. Also, I am on fertility drugs now. So I did examinations. They didn't show me very happy results, though. However, I hope to get pregnant after Clomid. But I am afraid for this additional risk of rapid weight loss. Most of the people say that only obesity can harm... But you have a point saying about the hormonal change. I am going to the gym regularly now. Also, I do yoga. My diet is not very strict, but I try to eat small portions 5times a day. I have already lost 4 kg

Ok, girl, obesity is bad. But - to be plump is ok! You don't have to look like an anorexic model to give birth to a healthy child! My friend is quite short, and she weights 170 lb. It's about 80 kg. She has given a birth to a wonderful couple of twins lately. She had IVF with her own egg in Kiev. So, think, many things depend on your overall health. But also it depend on the doctors and clinics. You must minimize your stress too! Eat healthy, do some exercises. But enjoy them! I love running. This is my personal "drug". Even in two weeks after giving birth to my baby, I needed to have my running leaves. I feel better , when I do exercises. But it does not mean that running is to all. Maybe some yoga combined with work-out is better for you!

The problem is that rapid weight loss is a strong stress for the body as a whole. And this stress has the strongest effect on the hormonal background. When the amount of adipose tissue that is the depot of the estrogen hormone decreases dramatically, a woman's menstrual cycle breaks down. Frequent violations of the menstrual cycle lead to violations in the work of the reproductive system. And a thin beauty misses the opportunity to conceive a child. Sometimes it happens that it is thinness and lack of weight that becomes the main reason for being unable to become a mother. According to experts on infertility and gynecologists, without harm to health a woman can lose weight not more than 500 g per week. Even in case of obesity, when you need to lose weight, do not resort to emergency measures and lose weight by more than 500-700 g per week. It is well-known fact that overweight is not only not aesthetically pleasing, but can also cause various diseases. The easiest way to determine the presence of excess weight in a woman is to subtract 110 from the growth in centimeters. The figure obtained is the ideal weight for this growth. Exceeding the weight norm by more than 20% becomes a serious cause for concern. There is a formula for calculating the body mass index. To obtain the body mass index, you need to divide the body weight in kilograms by the square of the height in meters. If the index obtained ranges from 20 to 25, then the weight is normal, above 25 - excess weight, above 30 - this is already signs of obesity. Direct dependence of the ability of a woman to become pregnant from weight is not. There are many examples where women with excess weight give birth to several children, and they do not have any problems. And vice versa, when women with ideal weight for years can not become pregnant. And, nevertheless, there is every reason to believe that the presence of excess weight in a woman can be an indirect cause of infertility. In support of this view, there are a number of facts. In overweight women, menstrual cycle disorders occur more often under the influence of the endocrine factor, which leads to infertility. Often a decrease in excess weight by at least 10% leads to the normalization of the menstrual cycle. Excess weight disrupts the balance of sex hormones in the body of a woman, which in turn affects conception and ovulation in the most direct way. For example, female sex hormones (estrogens and progesterones) regulate the process of ovulation. In the process of ovulation, the egg ripens. Progesterones prepare a woman's body for the adoption of a mature egg, estrogens in turn control progesterones. Fat cells activate the production and accumulation of a large number of estrogens, the excess of which blocks progesterones. As a result, ovulation is disturbed and the egg does not ripen. Accumulated in the fat deposits, estrogens signal the brain to the pituitary gland, which produces FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) about its excess. As a result, the production of FSH is reduced, which disrupts the ovaries and ovulation. In addition, an increased level of estrogen in the body of a woman creates the risk of the formation of various types of tumors, such as fibroids and uterine fibroids, which is also often the cause of infertility. Another unpleasant consequence of excess estrogen in the body of a woman with excess weight is endometriosis of the uterus (proliferation of the mucous membrane of the uterus). As a result of hormonal disorders, the uterine mucosa is not completely rejected during menstrual flow, which adversely affects ovulation, and as a result leads to infertility. The consequence of excess weight in a woman can become a disease such as polycystic ovary. Violation of the hormonal background in the body of a woman leads to the accumulation in the ovaries of partially matured oocytes, which again leads to a violation of the menstrual cycle. In polycystic ovaries increase the production of androgen hormones, the accumulation of which slows down ovulation, often ovulation can completely stop. Polycystic ovary is more common in women after 30 years old, who already have children, and can cause secondary infertility. In addition to hormonal disorders, excess weight can cause other physiological changes in the body of a woman leading to infertility. Of great importance is the distribution of fatty deposits. If the fatty deposits are distributed evenly, it is not so fraught with consequences as the accumulation of fat tissues in certain places of the woman's body. But, unfortunately, most of the time most of the fat deposits form in the woman in the abdomen and thighs. In this case, the blood flow in this area of the body is violated, and consequently the metabolism is broken in the internal genitalia of a woman (in the uterus and ovaries). These disorders can lead to the formation of adhesions in the fallopian tubes, which directly affects the patency in them, and is often the cause of infertility. Especially dangerous is the excess weight for girls during puberty and the formation of the genital functions of the future woman. Breaking the hormonal background during this period can have the most serious consequences. Excess weight during the ripening period of the girl breaks the hormonal background. Hormones in turn change the structure of the body of the girl, which can contribute to the accumulation of fatty deposits. It is necessary to control this vicious circle during the ripening period. In addition, according to experts, excess weight in adolescence contributes to early sexual maturation, and in the future, the instability of the menstrual cycle and the violation of the process of ovulation. Whether the excess weight will affect conception and ovulation in each specific case is impossible to say in advance. When planning a pregnancy, it is advisable to bring your body to full readiness for the load. And reducing excess weight, as a way to a healthy lifestyle, should be at one of the first places in the process of preparing for pregnancy. However, it is absolutely unacceptable to exhaust your body with diets and hours of training during pregnancy planning. The process of losing weight should be gradual and painless for the organism of the future mother.

Just don't lose too much weight at the same time. Try to do it step by step. The best way to get rid of extra kilos is healthy eating and sport. Start eating healthy food and you will see the first results. Slow weight loss won't influence your fertility. But if you start loosing 10-15 kg per months you will have bad consequences. Our body doesn't like to be shocked. I was loosing 2-3 kg per month and everything was fine. I got pregnant and gave birth to my baby boy. Unfortunately, the delivery was very difficult. But it happened not because of my weight loss. Doctors made a lot of mistakes. I wasn't able to get pregnant again. But I'm glad that I have my son. So, good luck with your weight loss.

Weight matters a lot for pregnancy and for infertility.Women who are over weight have a low chance of live births. In addition, they have high miscarriage rate, have high rate of gestational diabetes and have high blood pressure during pregnancy. So,all of these different issues are really good reason to try to loose weight and it will definitely help you to get pregnant fast.

Well yeah! It's a very little important factor to consider. But, I really think that you should take it up with your OBs and Nutritionist. They will properly guide you, but I'd like to press your argument that it's has a very important role in conceiving...When I was in Ukraine for my own IVF. I had women there complaining about their weight problem. I think you should really go through a consultation...

Hi there. Weight contributes greatly towards infertility. However, it isn't the only cause. In most cases it can be though. Losing weight is a good idea. Work on your eating disorder too. Hypnotherapy can work wonders for that. Good luck!

I don't know much but I think it is not a very serious issue which can not be solved. The way overweight creates issues similarly underweight will also have some threats. If you are losing weight then you might be having some extra pounds. You can opt for loosing to a considerable limit. Appropriate weight is good for health and it will not create any issue in pregnancy. As you said you are not very slim so you may not be at risk. So just relax and wait for your right time.

Fertility and weight has some relation. There are many studies that suggest that if you are unable to conceive despite of all the attempts, the first thing that can be considered is to watch your weight. I have seen so many ladies around who were struggling with their conception. They were overweight if not obese I must say. When they contacted their gynecologist she asked them to reduce their weight. And after they lost some kg’s and was in normal BMI they were able to conceive very easily. So I must suggest all the ladies who are unable to conceive and are over- weight do try to reduce their weight at first.

Hi there, you asked quite an interesting question. As a matter of fact while treating or dealing with infertility doctors always pay special attention to the weight. And the couples who are overweight or obese their chances of conceiving are low. I have seen many couples who were able to conceive only by losing weight. I would suggest you to try to lose your weight it will help you both in conceiving and staying fit too.
Linda
